Oakland Police Critically Injure Iraq War Vet During Occupy March
WASHINGTON — The Oakland Police Department fired tear gas on Occupy Oakland demonstrators Tuesday night as they marched through downtown, determined to reclaim the camp that officers destroyed that morning. As the marchers zigged and zagged in search of safe ground, authorities bombarded and barricaded the activists into a drawn-out stalemate that resulted in further arrests.
The local police’s use of force seriously injured an Occupy activist and Iraq War veteran.
Scott Olsen, 24, remains sedated on a respirator, in stable but critical condition at Oakland’s Highland Hospital after being hit in the head with a police projectile.
Olsen’s roommate, Keith Shannon, 24, told The Huffington Post that Olsen is still in the emergency room.

Food Day October 24th
Food Day is a national celebration that seeks to bring together Americans from all walks of life—parents, teachers, and students; health professionals, community organizers, and local officials; chefs, school lunch providers, and eaters of all stripes—to push for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way.
Next Monday there will be several events on campus to celebrate, educate and bring people together over good food.
SSA, Flatland food collective, the CoHo, EPPC and CSSC have worked together to put together a night of events, hosted in the CoHo.
6:30-7:30 Mingle: Samples of local foods from local farms, Flatland food collective and their bike powered blender, and tables set up for various enviro/food clubs, ie. project compost, SSA, CCE. We will also be putting together a photo petition to send to the chancellor requesting that UCD sign a campus commitment to Real Food. Students can take photos to send to the chancellor that say stuff like I love real food, or with whiteboards that they can write their own message on.
7:30-8:00 Ryan Galt will be speaking on Real Food
8:00-9:30 We will screen the documentary the Greenhorns
Occupy Davis
Nonviolent protestors have been occupying Wall Street since September 2011. This is a proposal to Occupy Davis in solidarity with the Wall Street protesters, as other cities are doing. There are now events planned in roughly 1,500 cities (See http://www.occupytogether.org/). Sacramento has its own group which started its occupation of Caesar Chavez Park on October 6, 2011.
Round-the-clock occupation of Central Park will begin Saturday, October 15 at 10:30 AM
